Next Door Scholars offers a comprehensive suite of programs grounded in the realities of education disruption, conflict, and youth marginalization in South Sudan. Our programs prepare, support, and empower refugee and host-community youth to pursue higher education and sustainable livelihoods. Below are our key program components.

Program Components

1. College Readiness & Academic Support

Goal: Equip scholars with the foundational skills needed to meet university admission standards.

  • Diagnostic assessments to identify academic gaps.
  • Weekly refresher classes in English, math, and study skills.
  • Workshops on exam preparation and academic planning.

2. Mentorship & Leadership Development

Goal: Provide consistent mentorship to enhance leadership and youth empowerment.

  • Each scholar paired with a mentor (students or professionals).
  • Monthly check-ins and leadership sessions.
  • Peer cohorts to build supportive networks.

3. Financial Aid, Scholarship & Application Navigation

Goal: Bridge financial and logistical barriers preventing students from applying.

  • Guidance on filling out applications and managing fees.
  • Assistance with documentation and reference letters.
  • Workshops on budgeting and living resources.

4. Leadership & Soft Skills Training

Goal: Develop communication, teamwork, and advocacy skills.

  • Public speaking and confidence building.
